Joys of Caravanning

The Caravan Club has created an infographic which outlines how caravanning contributes to UK Tourism.  Also detailed are top UK National Parks to stay at as well as some other caravan facts.

The UK Caravan Club.

The Caravan Club is an excellent organization and I think a must for Caravan and Motor Homes owners whether they travel in the UK or Europe.

Membership for this year 2014 is £44.  when joining there is a £10 joining fee which is waived if you elect to pay by Direct Debit.  Go on line to see the benefits of Full, Joint or Family Membership.

WEBSITE,  http://www.caravanclub.co.uk  On this website you will find lots of info on many topics and services, Camp Sites, Touring in the UK and Abroad inc. Booking Ferries and The Tunnel, Expert Advice, News and Events, Insurance and Finance, Shop and the NEW, Club Together, a Forum for Members.

THE SERVICES of the Caravan Club are many and I will try to outline most of these on this page.

1. CARAVAN CLUB SITES. If a non-member stays on a Caravan Club Site, which accepts non-members, they pay and additional £10 per night.

2. CERTIFIED LOCATIONS, C.L's as they are called, of which there are over  sites owned by private ownership, situated on Farms, in large Private fields or Public Houses, Hotels etc.,  These have a licence for accommodating a limit of just 5 outfits Caravan or Motor Homes.  These are Members Only Sites.  Some have facilities some have not.  Most have Electric Hook Ups today which price is included with the site fee.  This Fee can range from £5 a night if no EHU most today being about £10 per night.  These sites are bookable direct with the owner some will want a deposit and most, your membership number on booking and when you arrive, on reporting to their own house or office.  These are excellent value especially for retired owners of Caravan's or Motor Home's who like a peaceful holiday in rural situations.  There is not a lot to do for Children as there is on the Club sites which really suit families better.

 Insurance.

The Caravan Club provides a range of Insurance products, with Touring Caravan and Red Pennant overseas holiday insurance arranged and looked after by the Caravan Head Office.

Car, Motor Home, Home and Pet Insurance can also be arranged, however, this is looked after by Devitt Insurance Services which are underwriters for the Caravan Club.  May Day, breakdown recovery service in the UK is arranged through Green Flag on behalf of the Caravan Club.

Red Pennant, Overseas Holiday Insurance. Registered by FSA.  3 options to choose from are:- Motoring and Personal, Motoring only and Personal only.

Details of all these Packages can be viewed on the Caravan Club Website.

Touring in Europe.

The Caravan Club publishes a free brochure, available to Members, called Continental Caravanning.   This includes information on over 200 campsites that are inspected every year, details and routes of ferry operators including Eurotunnel and a selection of escorted holidays.  This means it is possible to book and pay for your entire holiday, before you leave home.

A useful link for travelling on the roads in Europe.

There is usually a discount for Members so cheaper than booking direct with the companies.  We have booked the Tunnel through the Club for the last 8 years with the caravan or solo with just the car.  We do not shop at Tesco's or have a Tesco Card so cannot take advantage of the free crossings.

A Directory of Camp Sites is available through the Webshop of which this year 2012 there are 3 listed as under:-

Caravan Club Europe,  France- Member £8. 99.  Non Member £14.99.

Caravan Club Europe,  Spain,       "       £5. 99.          "            £7. 99.                                                    Portugal.

Caravan Club Europe,  Austria,      "      £8. 99            "          £14. 99.                                          Benelux,                                                                                                              Central Europe,                                                                                                  Germany,                                                                                                             Greece,                                                                                                                 Italy,                                                                                                                     Scandinavia,                                                                                                       Switzerland.

These Guides are really a must for all travelling in Europe even if you have ACSI Camping Card or Camping Cheques as all the sites are recommended by Members of the Club, and excellent directions to the site are given.

Forum  "Club Together".

This Forum is excellent now after a few teething troubles and a wonderful way to get to know other Members.  So many travel in Europe now and can help new caravanners to this with lots of useful answers.

After a year this Forum has recruited 100,000 Members which shows it has been an excellent success.  Why not have a look at http://www.caravanclub.com and go to Caravan Together.
